That's a clever idea, photovoltaic conversion of tritium decay beta
particles!  Might make nice watch batteries and such if they can get
them small enough...

I wonder if this could be harnessed on a large scale to
create energy from the decay of all the radioactive nuclear
waste we have.

This harnesses the beta decay of tritium, which is a pretty low-energy
process.  The high-level nuke wastes are much more energetic in gamma,
but that's harder to convert (usually to heat, then to power), and
doesn't disperse harmlessly if the 'battery' is opened.

I should have been more precise. I wasn't thiking of putting
nuclear waste out into the consumer's hands.  I was thinking
of somthing more along the lines of a power station.
