You might want to read this:

I suppose technically true, but *try* to find any
of that "dirty stuff" for on-road use anywhere in the
lower 48.

Late in 2010 Toyota plans to have Plug-in Prius available for
fleet purchase for large corporate/government buyers. From
the little I've heard about it - it will be a 2010 Prius with
new software designed to handle a Lithium Ion battery pack .

Toyota is now testing several 2010 Prius III with
a PHEV option in France. It can reportedly go up to
12 miles on EV mode alone (source: Cleanmpg ).

I know - it's a baby step. The Toyota PHEV prototype replaces
the NiMH unit with a more powerful LiIon unit and reworks
the onboard computer software. However, to make further
increase in the EV range, the Prius will have to lose a
signficant amount of weight and get an even more
powerful battery pack if the EV range is to be extended
by any significant amount than about 15 miles.
