this was just posted on the awea forum, but a 6 day turnaround for
"moderated" approval is just too much for a reasonable dialog

I am formulating a benchtop experiment prior to building a 7 foot
prototype of Allison's fixed pitch multiblade helix horizontal axis
turbine

Previous thread "DIY wind turbine designs" was an introduction and I
received numerous emails offline from active members of this and awea
board for
which I am appreciative.

specifics of Allison's concept is from an article in Popular Science
in 1980:

projection data:

I have detailed a txt file which discusses the experiment:

As an example of what the test hardware will look like, are photos of
a science project my daughter built several years ago, but needs some
embellishment. BTW, note that these blades constructed from vinyl
blind slats are not that different from some PVC pipe designs:

http://hostfree.us/main/pic.php?u22QADVU&i 379
http://hostfree.us/main/pic.php?u22QADVU&i 380

Ultimate design goal is to build a 15 foot 3 blade x 3rotor helix
turbine that delivers 1.7KW in a 12.5mph avg WS. I calculate that
results in a net energy production of $1000/6 winter months at
$0.13/KWhr, which makes it a viable investment.

I have that old Popular Science, a couple of years ago I was involved with
some wind industry people, and  I contacted the guy who has the rights to
the design, he didn't seem interested in them particularly,  and didn't have
a problem with making them "public domain" back then, although he didn't
have the drawings or prototypes any more.  He thought he knew someone who
had the drawings, but he wasn't sure.  The project didn't proceed far enough
for me to contact the person he named, but perhaps he still has them?

Not necessary to go offline, I just don't remember the specifics.  I'll look
and see if I kept any notes, but this goes back about 4 or 5 years.
