When I first turn on my new Prius, after it has been off for some time
(say overnight) the ICE starts and runs for a minute or two, even if the
car has only moved a few feet. This seems to happen almost every time,
and I was wondering why. It doesn't seem to correlate with the state of
the battery charge.
Another question: early Priuses had a vacuum flask for storing the
engine coolant while the car was parked, to retain heat. Does anyone
know if this is still present in the current model?

Your owner's manual actually explains this.
It *must* get the engine to a certain operating temperature in order to
reduce emissions.

What does the owner's manual of your shiny new $5,000 toy say?

Thanks for your predictable and oh-so-helpful response.
