Does anyone know if Toyota has sold more than 60,000 Prius
cars this year, so that the $3,100 tax credit will be reduced.
Thanks,
Dick

Yes, they have, and the credit will be reduced by fifty percent on
October first.

It's not just the Prius that counts; it's all hybrids sold by Toyota
(and that includes the Lexus brand.) Toyota reached the 60,000 level in
the second quarter of CY 2006.
"Taxpayers may claim the full amount of the allowable credit up to the
end of the first calendar quarter after the quarter in which the
manufacturer records its sale of the 60,000th vehicle."

to persons who buy a Prius before the end of the third quarter, i.e.,
before October 1.

The important number is 60,000 Toyota/Lexus/Scion hybrids, and yes,
that was in May. The full credit for each of those hybrids is only
until Sept. 30, 2006, then it is reduced by 50%.

for a good explaination, links, and pretty charts.

Thanks for the information. I bought my new Prius on Monday, August 1, so I
should get the full $3,100 credit. Great!
Thanks,
Dick
