I should note that  if would be much easier to use a serial port
sniffer instead since the above mentioned program would also
spit out the raw USB protocol crap -- something we're not
interested in.. If the program supports communication over a
plain old serial port instead (using a USB-->serial adapter), that
would remove most of the initial pain.. Do you recall if it allows
a plain old serial port for communication?

If so, you could probably use something like this to sniff the data

I did this and gave up after several hours deciphering the serial port's
communication (my data logger is serial).

The problem is that no one wants to hack the Fronius protocol.
It costs $00 to get the hardware and software.

It's easier to buy a SunnyBoy that already offers a more open reporting
package... for free, as I recall.

That would be new.  Mine was USB, and it didn't work.

Now that you've installed that, you will be pleased to find that error
messages from other programs will be auf deutsch, even after you uninstall
the Fronius software.

You're correct -- I was referring to the data logger/interface
(the combo box) -- it's got the proprietary USB crap but also has the
open protocol stuff that goes over the RS232 port..

Ahh.. I only downloaded their PDF -- no install for me.. I'll keep
in mind though IF I try their software.. I mostly run Mac's and Linux
at home..
