OK, we have been waiting.  For a while now we have seem several promises
for producing $1.00 watt for solar power panels.
One small company has said they have received 100 million to make a factory
to produce them. Their main Engineer has left them so it does not look good.
Did they disappear after getting the front money.  What happened to a TI
venture to make solar cells on a long rolling process.
There has been at least 10-20 people over the years talking about lower
cost panels but has gone to the wayside.
To really be compative with coal power they need to be in the $ 0.35 per
watt range.

They're still around and, the last I heard, all their production for
the next year or two has already been sold out. There doesn't seem to be
any big red flags about the company but I'm still withholding judgment
until their panels appear in ordinary circulation.

Thing film panels used to be available for $3/Watt.

The key phrase is producing solar panels for $1 a watt.
Everyone for some reason has taken this to mean that these solar
panels will now cost $1 a watt to buy.
ie the production cost = the sale price.
I cant imagine why this would be the case.
Its also interesting that the total production has been sold out to
"someone" at an undisclosed price.
So no evidence of any kind that the solar panels are being sold for $1
a watt.

Whats the production cost of a conventional monocrystalline solar
panel in $ per watt.
