Politicians aren't willing to make it an issue right now, because
people haven't yet come around to really believing that they have to
make major changes to their lifestyles. Any politician who tells
people, right now, what needs to be done -- will be an ex-politician
in very short order. Most people are NOT forward-thinking. Most
people don't want to change their behavior. Most people,
unfortunately, are not educated to employ critical thinking, nor are
they encouraged to think for themselves.
...so you have to do a frustrating, silly dance to get the word out
and change the way people think. Eventually, people see that slavery
is wrong, that segregation is wrong, that extensive use of fossil
fuels is bad for business and progeny,
... It takes time to turn the cruise ship.
