Has anyone looked into interfacing with the Trace "Remote Port" without
the use of the (expensive) SWCA?
If so, would you mind sharing what you learned?

Hacking that old SW remote port is how the SWCA was originally desgned
I think.
It is simple enough to draw a schematic. The SW remote port drives
the LCD directly and takes button pushes from the individual keys.
Not too hard to draw a schematic of a remote and then you're off.
It's the typical 2 line by 16 character LCD controller. It may be a
n HD44780.
