Hello,
If I wanted to keep a battery charged during the day, is it a good
idea to connect the battery to a solar charge controller (fed by PV)
and a battery charger (fed by the gird) at the same time?

No.... they will confuse each other. One will see the 14.5v produced by
the other and think the battery is charged and shut off.
