Murphy says if anything can go wrong, it will. We were off to our
daughters college graduation today (Champlain College, Burlington
VT), and came home to no power. Batteries are fully charged, but the
inverter is totally out. Thunder and lightning storm today apparently
found a way in past the protectors. Being a Saturday, cant get tech
support working on a replacement till Monday. We can run from
generator, but that would take a lot of fuel. We are moving food from
the electric fridge to the two propane fridges, and changing our sleep
cycles to match the sun. The well pump runs from battery, so we have
water, but the propane tankless water heater uses electric ignition.
We have moved out to the camper, which is self contained, and solar
charged. Cant wait to find out what the repair bill will be.

5-11-09 Update - Just got off the phone with Outback. $75 for
overnight replacement of the three logic boards. This is an out of
warranty replacement. Will update after installation.

That's a hoot. No backup inverter. Very professional, not.

Then there is the misquote of Murphy's law

It was named after Capt. Edward A. Murphy, an engineer working on Air
Force Project MX981, (a project) designed to see how much sudden
deceleration a person can stand in a crash.

One day, after finding that a transducer was wired wrong, he cursed
the technician responsible and said, "If there is any way to do it
wrong, he'll find it."

This sentiment seems to sum up Steve's system quite well. So, no
backup inverter.

Poor George, can't even correct a quote correctly.

Maybe you have spare $500 inverters lying around. I don't. Not a big
deal, we just go without Alternating Current for a few days.

The correction is quite correct. http://www.murphys-laws.com/murphy/murphy-=

The backup inverter only needs to be big enough to keep the most
essential items running. Still, I'm not really surprised you don't
know that.
