Use a car starter for the battery.  No, not a starter motor,
One of those portable jump starter boxes.  It already has
a line (mains) cord so you can have the unit all precharged
before you set out.  The solar would be for makeup charging
while you are camping.  As somone else mentioned, mount the
charge controler to the back of the solar panal.  Then make
your connection between the box and the panel with the big
battery clamps.  Advantage: Easy to unclamp and take where
you need it at night.

Just a thought.
