OK, you might be able to do a bit better if you did everything yourself,

line.  But you might not be eligible for the rebate. And you might (or
might not) have an issue with your local inspector.

As to the system being worth it to reduce your electric bill?  You don't
provide enough information to have an opinion.

That depends on what you are paying for electricity (during the day time),
and also your cost of money.

According to PVWATTS, if you are paying 12.5 cents/kWh, for a 5.96kW system
(and I am assuming that is the CEC AC rating, which takes into account real
world performance and inverter efficiency), then you will save $,358.50
per year.

So if you borrow money at 4.5%, your pay-back would be 115 years!

If you used money that you would otherwise be burying in the garden, and
earning nothing on, your pay-back would be 22 years.

Reducing your electrical consumption is a much more cost-effective method
of reducing your electric bill, than is a solar PV system (for most folks).

Something worth trying is to ask the Installer for an itemised quote.
ie the cost of the panels/
the cost of the Inverter.
the cost of the mounting hardware.
the cost of the labor etc.

Then take the quote and see what prices you can buy the same items
for.
Work out what you are being charged for the labor.

Ive tried this now with 5 differant installers, and surprise,
surprise, not one will give an itemised quote.

Yes, you can get a good deal if you look around , but things seem to
change when there are subsidies or rebates involved.
All the quotes Ive got for solar installs which include an $K Govt
rebate, all seem to have ridiculously high install costs which just
seem to be around the same price as the rebate, ie the install cost
just gets increased by about the amount of the rebate.
You cant install them yourself, otherwise you dont get the rebate
and the Installers all know this.
