Hello,
It seems that the price of the Silicon in a Solar panel is a small
part of global price of a full system installed by a professional.
Here panel placed on your roof top by a professional costs around ~8€/
W (~US$10).
On EBAY :), as stated in the subject, one can found Solar Cell for
less than 2$/W for rather small quatities. One can guess that for
larger amount of cells the price is much better ???
So, reducing the solar cell cost by a factor two will have little
effect on the final price of a solar system.
I am interested by your comments on this subject.

That eBay price is very good, if that's the real rating of the cells.
There is, of course, much more involved in that $10/watt rooftop
installation than just the cells. The panels are UL (or similar)
listed, and warranted for 20-25 years. That price also includes
labor, mounting racks, an inverter, and the other incidental items.
If you were to shop around, I believe you would find panels for around
$4/watt, and the ASP from a low-cost manufacturer such as Suntech is
about $2.50/watt.
