Well, we had frames made! Importing framed panels would have been much
more expensive.
A local aluminium window manufacturer made frames to a size I ordered.
These were made from angle aluminium, welded at the corners and very
strong. We then dropped in each panel with a bead of silicone adhesive
along the edge, after carefully cleaning each frame with methylated
spirits. A further silicone bead was added inside the back of the
frame afterwards.
They don't even look like loosening after 4 years. The silicone is
protected from direct sunlight by the frame - so I don't expect much
deterioration.
(Note - I had ONE frame made first and checked it. The size was
perfect, but we decided to make deeper frames for the subsequent 28
panels, to give them more rigidity.)
I think that fixing them direct to aluminium framing would work fine -
but they are much more difficulty to handle (and later remove if
needed) without integral frames.
