I have a Trace Engineering UPS, model JH412, 400w, which I picked up
at an electronic surplus store, and am thinking of using as an

Just that it is probably a bastardized square wave, not a sine wave. It
should run many things fine, other things will object and either hum,
overheat, or just plain croak.

Check the specs, if it's a nice UPS it might be True Sine Wave of have far
greater steps than cheap caravan interters have, i'm using a cheap interver
for a home made UPS and it works fine, the monitor flickers though so maybe
check this with a monitor, if the picture is perfect without lines or
jumping you might just be alright.
