Who took apart the harbor freight charge controller and tested the circits
I have been looking thru the messages and cant seem to find the posts.
They listed witch pot did what (there are 2 of them) and after a quick look
they seem to both do the same thing. I know that cant be right.
I think one should be the upper voltage limiter and the other???
It's been a while, but when I checked out the charge controller I
had to map the circuit because Harbor Freight wouldn't provide a
schematic. The circuit is fairly simple with one pot controlling the
high set point and the other controlling the low point. At the high
point the sonalert is turned on and an FET switch disconnects the panel
from the battery. At the low point another FET switch disconnects the
battery ground from the voltage distribution circuit ground, thus
preventing a battery from discharging below about 10.5 V. The
controller will fail if the panel is connected and the battery is
disconnected. The parts are readily available and cheap. Most of the
postings about these recommend getting a "good" controller. When I get
a chance I'll build a moving power point controller.
