The idle current of an inverter is somewhat proportional to the capacity.
Can someone recommend models that have particularly low idle current?
Are there any true sinewave inverters I should take a look at?

Take a look at http://www.phrannie.org/phredex.html
Second article is about inverters. Three types of inverters are mentioned
including the true sinewave.
After reading the article, I purchased an inverter/charger from
http://www.rvsolarelectric.com/ as they are very helpful and they actually
use their products so they know what works.

I user a Studer pure sinewave unit which has adjustable switch on load.
Below this load the inverter switches on periodically to check for a load
being applied. Consquently, idle load is very low. BTW, these are really
high quality units, beautifully made and competitive on price.
Chuffed customer. Peter.

The idle current from an australian inverter company
Latronic is the lowest of them all, (uses somthing like less than .1A a day)
This is achieved because they have a variable stand by/sleep state, that
automatically cuts in when a device is plugged in and turned on.

What do you mean by .1A a day?
