Hi,
Also ran across this collector design that I thought was interesting.
The collector glazing and frame are integrated into a one piece
polycarbonate pan.  It eliminates all the edge frame components,  the
related corner joints, and the glazing to frame attachment.
I wonder a bit about accommodating thermal expansion of the
Polycarbonate, but maybe careful mounting could take care of this.  It
certainly seems like a simpler design.

Interesting design, but seems a bit expensive for a flat plate.

It does seem odd that with all the changes that simplify the design,
that there is no improvement in the price.
Maybe its a manufacturing quantity issue.

Seems odd? Gary, you are a master of understatement. A flat plate
collector of that size in Europe would probably cost from 300 to 600
Euros, but Imagination's collectors cost more than evacuated vacuum
tubes - around 1190 Euros. Seems more like fantasy rather than
imagination, unless I'm missing something.

Here is another interesting design for you -

 Hi Andrew,

Andrew wrote:

Yes :-)  -- its pretty pricey.

I'm a DIYer ( www.BuildItSolar.com ), so the thing that popped into my
head when I saw the one piece Polycarbonate housing was that if this
housing could be made available on the DIY market at a good price,
then this would be a great basis for homemade collector panel.  There
would be no separate frame to build, and it eliminates the possibility
of putting the glazing in wrong.  The remaining difficult part to make
is the absorber plate, but there are quite few outfits that sell these.

That is interesting -- especially the "let it freeze" part.
