" ...I didn't say that your imports were a significant part of American
requirements - in fact I said
you probably had enough for your own needs, and it seems you do..."

Why did you bring it up if it isn't significant?
What IS the point?

Corn stoves can now save two thirds of the heating bill.  Pellet stoves
can save a lot of money too, but availability is overwhelmed. Multi
fuel stoves are also available. Sales have been skyrocketing. If you
live near corn growers, buy a corn stove. Availability is assured.
Pellet availability will catch up. Corn has a natural advantage for
heating. It is a natural pellet, and does not need any extra processing
or transportation. Corn stoves cost from $500 to $,000 and payback is
about two years. Exhaust is invisible and non harmful like natural gas.

Biomass heating and electrical generation makes even more sense than
gasahol plants. Any carbon rich material can be used.
With gasification, pollutants are minimized. It is the quickest way to
energy independence.

This is not to minimize wind or solar techology. Just faster and
cheaper, especially for heating.

If interested, see the cornfuel group on Yahoo.

Biomass heating with corn or pellets is pollution neutral, and will pay
back in two to three years. It will also generate electricity if
applied.

I am all for wind or solar, but biomass is already competing with oil
and natural gas. This is keeping the prices down a little now , and a
lot later.

Happy New Year,

Hi Ron,

Many solar thermal projects also have short paybacks.

For example, this one has a payback period of 1 year at the current
propane prices in my area:

More solar thermal projects here:

Some with short paybacks.

AND, you don't have to grow (or buy) corn :-)
