They are not. Storing carbon in trees, even for a (relatively) short time is
good for the climate.
After 50-100 years of storage, they will save energy while heating a house,
or be used as a building material, storing carbon for some more time. Trees
are similar to solar panels.
... And don't forget to use the leaves as 'growing help' for your plants or
vegetables.
