Anonymous Coward writes "This company claims to have the first LED
flood lights that you simply screw in as a replacement for your old bulb.
enluxled.com are also claiming it's cool enough to handle, more damage
resistant, longer lasting (50,000 hours) and only uses 22w to produce
twice the light of a 100w bulb." And hideously expensive, but you never
have to change them.

Actually, it uses 22W to produce the same light as 30W incandescent.
It's not cool to the touch (see big heat fins & the warning not to
use in enclosed fixtures). It is somewhat more rugged and has the
long lifespan of any solid state device but they are limited to
indoor use only so they aren't all that rugged. I'm starting to see
some LED traffic signals starting to fail so it's clear they won't
last forever.
The comparison of 22W to 100W incandescent only applies if you need
a Red, Green or Yellow spotlight.
A good 7W compact fluorescent light would produce the same amount
(or more) light, fit the same screw in fixtures and costs a heck of
a lot less.
This, of course, has nothing to do with alt.solar.thermal.
