Can someone please tell me why the sky is a lot less blue than it was
say 5years ago.

 Blue sky is due to light bouncing off gas particles. The phenomenon is
called Rayleigh scattering. My sky isn't a lot less blue than it was 5 years
ago. Maybe you have a local inversion problem, preventing you from seeing
the sky so well.
