The solar is used to aid the "whole house fan" (After measuring the fan
- a ceiling fan wouldn't work - no gossamer). Both working on a
thermostat. Question i have is where to place the solar attic fan .
Directly above the whole house fan or in the gables. I read where i can
save 15-55% on my bill.

The usual place is the ventilate the attic but due to the intense heat you
can figure on replacing the motor every two to three years.

So it does matter whether is solar or not. Would it matter on how many
attic fans to cut down on the replacement of fans ?

It was probably just the cheap construction of the shaded pole motor. It
remeinded me of a surplus phonograph motor with completely open frame.

So, you're pumping air from the house INTO the attic with the whole
house fan,
presumably in the night, and then pumping air FROM the attic to
outdoors with the attic fan, puresumably in the day?

YOu'd have to seal the whole house fan access very very well, or the
attic fan might pull hot air into the house via the whole house fan
opening.

Maybe just extra attic insulation would be better all around, and add
venting locations for the attic.
