Friends,

We are building a solar turbine concentrator system for producing
electricity:

We are presently evaluating turbine choices. We are leaning towards a
bladed turbine as in:

http://openfarmtech.org/index.php?title=Bladed_Turbine

Does anyone have suggestions on who could fabricate the bladed turbine
rotor as shown? We need just the rotor - we'll build the casing in-
house.

Any other suggestions about our system are welcome. I'd appreciate it
if you could point me to other successful solar concentrator electric
systems from people in the group.

Sincerely,
Marcin

That looks like a Tesla turbine to me. Tesla had a problem with the
materials that were available to him and that lead to his failure after
having spent a fortune on this.

I would think the materials issues have long been solved (it's been a
century!). There are places that you can buy whatever grade steel in
small quantities you need (there's one in Atlanta if you don't have the
raw material). Google yields one turbine built from dead hard drive
platters!

You may wish to approach these guys:

They are building alternators out of water and laser cut sheet steel,
they will know more the machining process than I do and it seems that
they will be kindred spirits and sympathetic to your cause. But I would
think most high end machine shops can do this with little trouble.

My understanding is that modern turbines have a higher efficiency that
the Tesla turbine, although the Tesla is no slouch.

Anyhow, keep us informed and good luck. Others here will probably
know more about this than I do... so stay tuned.
