You are right, trouble is electricity prices are artificially low
because you don't pay for carbon emissions - i believe the government
is working on a solution to that.
Also
Solar hotwater systems last a lot longer than electric ones, doesn't
really help in your case, unless, solar system is an asset that
improves the value of the house when you sell it.
