But that's probably one of those simple thermosyphon type kits which are

We need something that frost proof so it has to be indirect and use a
frost protected working fluid.

That is one option. Another option is to use a controller which will
circulate water enough to keep the sensitive parts of the collector
from freezing. This could be say five minutes an hour. This does
reduce the temperature of the store a little, but it may be an
appropriate option in some circumstances.

Another option is to let it freeze, the approach taken by Solartwin.
It is unlikely to remain frozen for long during the day.

I wasn't going to get into this but....

How 'bout an a story with a happy ending, one real close to home.  For me at
least.

About a month ago.  About 5 in the morning.  Guy pulls in the driveway with his
lights out.  The sound wakes me up.  I hear him walk around two sides of my
cabin and
then come back and open my van door.  I got up, picked up my S&W .357 mag
snubbie off
the night table and walked around to the back door.  As I got close I heard a
knock.

I looked out and saw it was one of the locals so I opened the door, standing
behind
the door cuz I was in my BVDs and to hide my gun.  This guy, who is on mental
disability, was stoned and/or drunk and was raving something about a keyring
that I
supposedly had.  No idea what that was about.

I told him to leave 3 times.  He didn't.  I held out the cordless phone that I'd
also
picked up on the way to the door and told him that I'd call the cops if he didn't
immediately leave.  He yelled "I'll show you 911" as he reached to draw his gun
from
his shoulder holster.

Fortunately for me I was faster.  When I saw the butt of the gun clear jacket, I
whirled around and fired a shot through my storm door at him.  I killed the tail
of
his jacket dead but missed him.  Darn! He scampered off, pissing himself all the
way.
Found out later that before he'd come to my place, he'd broken into the
apartment of
a woman he'd been stalking and had roughed her up a little.

Fast-forward to yesterday.  I went to the preliminary hearing in Monroe County
Sessions Court for his aggravated assault charge.  Despite my objections, they
pleaded it down to especially aggravated criminal trespass (!) and he received
11/29.
(effectively a year).  Whether he has to serve it depends on the outcome of the
OTHER
case.

Seems that a couple of weeks later he got himself liquored and drugged up again
and
jumped an elderly retiree from behind and beat him up fairly badly.  Apparently
he'd
decided that this gentleman was "making time" with this woman that he's been
stalking.

DA told us yesterday that they're going full boat on this assault charge and
that if
they convict him (little doubt, considering the witnesses), he'll serve both
sentences consecutively.

Unfortunately, the woman who has the big hammer (domestic violence and stalking)
won't swing it.

Then there are the pending civil suits....

"Father's Little Helper" from Smith and Wesson saved the day again.  The bad
guy's
headed for jail and the good guy suffered only a dead storm door window.
